YESS Duck Derby 2009

So I have had the privileged of working on some things for the YESS Duck Derby happening at Jordan Creek Town Center on May 2nd through my work.

What is the YESS Duck Derby? It's simply a genius fundraiser on behalf of YESS (Youth Emergency Services & Shelter) where you adopt and race rubber duckies. It costs $5 to adopt one duck or $25 for a six-quack. All proceeds go to YESS, and there are some pretty incredible prizes. I bought my six-quack a couple weeks ago through my work and our team the "Wacky Waddlers". Anyway duck fever has come into full affect with our sponsors and we are having some fun with it. You can adopt a duck at YESSduckderby.org or follow them on Twitter or Facebook.

A legacy of President George W. Bush

If you know me you know that I am not posting this as political propaganda for President Bush. In fact, I fall into the majority of people who have disapproval in him. But when I step back and ask why... I don't really know. I think media influence probably has the most to do with it. At the core I tend to fall into a more republican mind-set. I think I just got tired of everyone hating the party because of one guy.

Anyway, I've come across news stories similar to this one in a few spots lately. It has really changed my overall perception of the Bush presidency. It's really one of those things until late have gotten glossed over and ignored. When really it's quite amazing. And some day its what historians we'll be talking about when referring to George W. Bush.

The amazing statistic is this... George W. Bush in 2003 petitioned congress to commit $15 billion dollar over 5 years to turn the waive of the AIDS epidemic in Africa. As a result his actions have saved more than 10,000,000 lives (that's 10 mill). The facts are all there and the statistics can not be disproved. This is probably my fault for not knowing this earlier... but its weird how news organization are just now making a big deal of it, now that he is leaving office.

Anyway, read this story on CNN.com if you are interested.

Yellow Pages Go Green

This is my first post in months folks... I've gotten lazy. Really I want to revamp my blog into something a little more focused. So I've dropped the ball and I am ok with that. However, I came across this today, and it stood out to me. Because every year I get this giant phone book in my front stoop, and for the past 5 years I haven't even taken it out of the bag, or brought it into the house, instead it went straight to the garbage. That should happen no more now due to this "opt-out" system. If you are like me and don't use a phone book, save some green and do the same.
